1. What is W+A doing in this project?
We are installing new or replacing old PDH (Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy) and SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) directional radio links on behalf of Telefonica. We are using system technology from SIAE and Huawei for this project.
2. What is the approach to or course of action for tackling such an assignment?
The first step is a building site inspection (BSI). The second step is a swap or new build of the directional radio installation. The third step consists of a clean-up.
3. How big is the project?
We install up to 26 directional radio links per week working with 4-5 teams (4 and 2 engineers per team = 12 engineers) and a BSI team (2 engineers). These activities are coordinated by my colleague Mike Berke and myself.
4. What characterises W+A in this project?
A high degree of completion and good quality (plus fast remedial action in the event of a deficiency)
5. Impact on the daily life of Joe Public?
By installing new directional radio links, we are ensuring the connection of new transmission masts and therefore supporting the expansion of transmission and reception technology (2G/3G/4G).
6. A look ahead to the future …
The acquisition of E-Plus (by Telefonica) heralds a big clean-up in Telefonica's network, which entails a lot of work for the future (network consolidation)
