The Bern Cantonal Wrestling Festival 2026 was over, but by the very next morning, the area in Wankdorf had to be dismantled again. For our team, that meant around 120 cubic meters of sawdust, three Hornets, and a tight schedule. What was still part of the wrestling arena on Monday morning was supposed to be gone from the covers by the end of the day.
Seven employees were deployed for this with our super-absorbent Hornets. It wasn't just about the quantity. Beneath the covers was the stadium's artificial turf, which heavy vehicles were not allowed to drive on.
Right here, the way we worked with our Hornets played to its full strength.
From the wrestling ring back to the football pitch
During the festival, the sawdust rings are a natural part of the scenery. Afterwards, however, the area must quickly be prepared for its actual use again. The challenge was to remove the material as quickly as possible and to protect the sensitive artificial turf beneath the covers.
Conventional removal, where the sawdust is pushed across the area using wheel loaders or other heavy equipment, was out of the question to protect the turf. This is precisely where our efficient suction technology was the ideal solution.
Three Hornets in parallel operation
A Hornet can already absorb large amounts of loose material. In Wankdorf, three machines were used simultaneously. This allowed our team on site to work on several areas in parallel.
Especially with this quantity, the simultaneous deployment made a difference. The 120 cubic meters of sawdust could be quickly removed from the covers and transported out of the stadium.
The high suction power is only one part of the machine. Equally important are the long and flexible hose lines. They deliver the suction power precisely to where it is needed, while the vehicle itself can stay at a distance.
This is particularly advantageous on sports facilities, roofs, or hard-to-reach areas.

Thank you for your commitment in Wankdorf
Such dismantling only works when all parties involved work together well on site. A big thank you therefore goes to our seven employees who, with three Hornets, ensured that the roughly 120 cubic meters of sawdust could be vacuumed up within the planned deployment time.
We would also like to thank the organizing committee of the Bernese Cantonal Wrestling Festival 2026 for the commission and the pleasant cooperation surrounding the event.
For our Hornets, the Wankdorf was a special deployment location. For us, it was a great opportunity to demonstrate how even large quantities of material can be vacuumed up quickly and gently on a sensitive surface.
