Josef Muff AG, our pipeline construction experts, are working flat out on the "Shil-Zürichsee relief tunnel" project to optimally prepare the tunnel boring head for the upcoming drilling work. This special cutterhead will play a crucial role in the drilling of the Shil-Zürichsee tunnel, which is around two kilometers long. With an impressive diameter of 7.5 meters and a weight of over 120 tons, the drill head is roughly equivalent to the weight of eighty average cars.
Precision work comes first - from flame cutting to grinding. Around 500 tons of steel with sheet thicknesses of 30 to 80 mm are waiting to be carefully welded together.
The work schedule is carefully thought out: In the first four weeks, work is carried out in 2-shift operation from 06:00 to 02:30. This is followed by 5 weeks of continuous operation in an impressive 24/7 rhythm. This targeted work structure makes it possible to progress along this fascinating path with confidence and determination.
