Renovation and new floor areas at BSC Young Boys' Eleven restaurant

In the Eleven restaurant of BSC Young Boys, various tasks came together as part of the renovation and conversion: Planning and planning application, construction scheduling for demolition and new construction. This was followed by structural adjustments, fire safety measures and an escape concept, as well as the preparation of the existing subfloor and new floor surfaces in the restaurant area.

While our Energy+Renovation department oversaw the planning, planning application and implementation of the project, the flooring team carried out the leveling work and laid the new vinyl flooring. This resulted in a total of 430 m² of new surfaces with a wood and stone look.

Dismantling and rebuilding

The conversion in the Restaurant Eleven began with extensive structural measures. Our Energy+Renovations department took over the demolition of the existing structures, thereby creating the basis for the new use of the space. In an environment such as the Wankdorf stadium, the requirements in terms of existing structures, building technology, safety and execution are correspondingly high.

Over the course of the project, components were rebuilt and adapted for future use. The aim was to create the structural conditions for a functional and permanently usable catering area.

Fire protection and technology

Fire protection and escape concept measures were an essential part of the project. This work was part of the new building construction and had to be adapted to the requirements of the catering area. At the same time, adjustments were made to the ventilation system. This required close coordination with the existing building services.

In addition, part of the restaurant area was partitioned off for the new athletics hall. This allowed the area to be reorganized without losing the open character of the space.

Floor structure and installation

Once the preliminary construction work had been completed, the flooring team took over the flooring work on the 430 m² area. The first step was to prepare and level the existing subfloor. This preliminary work was crucial in order to create a level and resilient base for the subsequent installation.

Subsequently, new Vinyl flooring laid. This resulted in 220 m² with a stone look and 210 m² with a wood look. The division of the surfaces supports the functional structure of the restaurant and at the same time creates a calm, consistent overall appearance.

Material and appearance

For the implementation, the design flooring Enia used. The product is designed for the contract sector and designed to withstand high levels of wear and tear in daily use. This makes the flooring suitable for surfaces that are used continuously in day-to-day catering operations.

The combination of stone look and wood look creates a clear differentiation within the surface. While the stone look conveys a functional and robust effect, the wood look brings a warmer feel to the room. The result is a design that remains functional and at the same time blends harmoniously into the overall concept.

Maintenance and execution

Another important aspect of the renovation of the Eleven restaurant was the durability of the materials used. The vinyl flooring used is phthalate-free and meets indoor air quality requirements. Thanks to the factory surface treatment, the flooring is designed for heavy use and economical maintenance.

The structural coordination with the flooring team was also relevant for transitions, connections and adjacent components. Precise execution is crucial, especially at interfaces between structural partitions, technical installations and floor surfaces, to ensure that function and appearance are permanently correct.

Result for BSC Young Boys

With the completion of the work in February 2026, BSC Young Boys received a functional, tailor-made catering area in the Eleven restaurant as well as a new athletics hall with modern infrastructure for the first team.

The project combined structural adaptations, fire protection measures, technical coordination and a new floor design to create a harmonious overall result.
