UHFB flooring was the answer at RESAG AG for a surface that is heavily used in everyday work. The existing concrete floor in the loading area was reinforced with an UHFB layer on an area of around 265 m². In total, approximately 7 m³ of UHFB were used for this purpose.
The reason for this lies directly in the use of this area. Heavy vehicles, delivered materials, and the work with a large excavator all meet in this area.
From concrete floor with stall mats to the UHFB layer
The existing concrete floor was previously protected with felt mats. These formed an additional layer between the substrate and the work processes on the surface.
For the new design, a different approach was chosen. Instead of continuing to cover the concrete with a separate protective layer, it was given an additional UHFB layer. This reinforced the existing floor area and prepared it for further use.
The decision to use UHFB was made based on the specific requirements on the ground, and not for design reasons.
This is how the area is used at RESAG
Trucks enter the area and deliver waste material, which is then tipped directly onto the ground surface.
After that, a large excavator takes over the further processing. With its grapple, it picks up the delivered material and performs a preliminary sorting. Subsequently, it is distributed further for the next work steps.
In this way, the ground forms part of the actual work process. It serves not only as a surface for movement, but also as the substrate for the material delivered and for the excavator’s work.
UHFB base for the load from the gripper
The contact between the excavator grapple and the surface is particularly demanding.
When taking the material, the gripper works directly above the ground. It is inevitable that it will rub against the surface. This creates mechanical stress on the surface, which is significantly different from that of a normally traveled concrete surface.
It was precisely this use that was an important factor in choosing the new ground structure. The substrate not only had to withstand the weight of the vehicles used, but also be able to handle the direct stresses on its surface.
Existing concrete floor reinforced
The area covered by the installation is around 265 m². Approximately 7 m³ of UHFB was installed to reinforce the structure.
The existing concrete floor remained the base of the structure. The new UHFB layer was applied to this substrate and today forms the claimed working surface.
The quantities also show that this was not a point-specific repair. The entire affected area was included in the execution.
A solution from everyday use
At the RESAG AG Certain later operations determined the choice of material.
The requirements result from a clear process: The material is delivered, unloaded onto the surface, and then further processed with heavy equipment. The most important aspect here is the way the excavator works with its grapple directly on the surface.
The UHFB base creates a reinforced foundation on top of the already existing concrete. This created a surface area of approximately 265 m² that is specifically designed for this application area.
