When concrete begins to tell its story, it begins for us on the site of the Ka-We-De Bern. A new, versatile leisure facility is currently being built on the site where generations of Bernese skaters have done their laps on the ice. With our team of experienced concrete specialists from Pegrila AG, we are making our contribution with technical expertise, reliability and a genuine passion for precision craftsmanship.
A project that requires teamwork
We have been working closely with the City of Bern and other specialist partners since the start of construction. Our concrete specialists from the Pegrila AG are responsible for carrying out the concrete work with the utmost precision, careful planning and great commitment on every surface. We are aware that what is being created here will be used intensively in the future, in summer and winter, by people of all ages.
The first stage: 2,000 square meters with technical precision work
The first major construction phase covered around 2,000 square meters. Our Pegrila AG team first prepared the chippings layer in a total of ten work steps. In May and June, this was removed in two sections of almost 1,000 square meters each with millimetre precision. This layer forms the basis for the rest of the construction and requires maximum precision.
The clean layer was laid in June and July. This sensitive work step ensures a stable separating layer for the subsequent concrete and creates uniform conditions for the subsequent work.
August 14 was a special moment. On this day, our specialists concreted the first part of the ice slab. They poured 325 cubic meters of concrete over an area of almost 2,000 square meters. The challenge: a flatness of plus/minus 3 millimetres over four meters - an achievement that is only possible with a well-coordinated team, clear planning and a lot of experience.
The second stage: concrete for movement and encounters
The second stage of around 4,200 square meters followed on from the first stage. This area will form the future center of the new facility. The ice rink will be built here in winter and the same area will serve as a water basin in summer. Our concrete specialists processed around 650 cubic meters of concrete for this. This stage was also implemented in several precisely planned sections, always adapted to the weather, material delivery and construction progress.
We're staying tuned - for Bern
With the successful completion of this second concrete stage, another milestone has been reached. The Ka-We-De is taking shape more and more clearly. We are proud that our work has allowed us to make a visible contribution to this important Bernese leisure project, together with our colleagues from Pegrila AG and all the partners involved.
What remains is not only the newly created space, but also the knowledge that good work can only be done as a team. And even if there are still more steps ahead of us: We look forward to continuing to be part of this development and helping to shape Ka-We-De Bern.
