Emmi Schweiz AG - functional floors for uncompromising hygiene in Ostermundingen

In the production plant of Emmi Schweiz AG, the floor in the PET 2.0 area in Ostermundigen was completely renovated. The goal was clear: a robust, hygienic floor structure, that withstands the daily stresses and reliably meets the applicable regulations. Our Floors & coverings team planned and executed the project from deconstruction to final coating - precise, seamless and without compromise.

Complete dismantling and sophisticated new construction
Before anything new could be built, the existing sloping concrete had to be removed. It was dismantled down to the load-bearing substrate and localized areas of the concrete slab were repaired. This was followed by the new construction with a funnel-shaped sloping layer of concrete, supplemented by a leveling layer of hard concrete. This gradient ensures that liquids are directed into the drains and no standing water zones are created. This created a robust basis for functional drainage, high load-bearing capacity and uncompromising hygiene - crucial in a food processing plant such as Emmi Schweiz AG.

Drains, waterproofing, connections - everything interlocks
The floor drains were positioned precisely parallel to the newly created slope. Core drillings were made for this, the drains were delivered on site, carefully moved and installed in a functional manner. Their position is crucial for the subsequent ease of maintenance and efficiency of the entire drainage system. The entire area was then waterproofed - including all connections to walls, installations and floor penetrations. Every seam was closed and every transition sealed. The result: uncompromisingly watertight, easy to maintain and permanently resilient.

Tiling with synthetic resin - made for heavy-duty use
A chemical-resistant stoneware tile covering was laid for the visible wear layer. The buttering-floating process with synthetic resin adhesive was used. In this process, adhesive is applied to both the back of the tiles and the substrate to create a full-surface, void-free bond. This ensures a particularly high load-bearing capacity and tightness. The system is liquid-tight, point-load capable and resistant to temperature changes. The joints were sealed with synthetic resin grout, which ensures high chemical and mechanical resistance. This combination of covering and grouting is easy to clean, hygienic and durable. Exactly what counts in a production environment where no residue is allowed to remain...

Wall coating in accordance with hygiene regulations
The vertical surfaces were also taken into account. The walls in the corresponding area were given a resistant Tana-Wall industrial wall coating that meets the strict hygiene requirements. The result was a continuous, closed system of floor, joints and walls. Nothing remains open, nothing absorbs moisture or residue. The result is easy to clean, hygienic and durable. Not made for the eye, but for everyday use. What has been built here is not intended for the showroom. It's about functional technology that has to withstand operation. Heat, cold, moisture, strong cleaning agents, constant foot and vehicle traffic - the floor has to withstand all of this on a daily basis. That's why each layer of the structure was selected to ensure long-term functionality.

The project in Ostermundigen shows that a good industrial floor is not created by chance. It is based on clear planning, precise execution and experience of what really matters in everyday life. We would like to thank Emmi Schweiz AG for the trust they have placed in us and the excellent cooperation.
