In the heart of the Bernese Oberland, where the mighty peaks of the Jungfrau region merge with the deep blue waters of Lake Brienz, new standards are rising in Bönigen. Here, in the traditional BLS workshop, which is considered the center for complex train overhauls, a spectacular milestone has been set. Not only was the rubber floor laid with the utmost precision over an area of 2,625 m² - an innovative green roof system was also implemented. This symbiotic combination of technical brilliance and sustainability catapults the Bönigen site to the forefront of future-oriented construction and reaffirms its role as a vibrant place for innovation and closeness to nature.
The floor - more than just a covering
The focus of this project is the floor: a robust, yet elastic masterpiece made of Rubberwhich not only withstands the highest loads, but also exceeds all expectations in its design. On these 2,625 m², functionality and aesthetics merge into a perfect unit. The rubber flooring was laid in two different variants to meet the specific requirements:
- Dissipative rubber tileswhich prevent electrostatic charges - ideal for sensitive working environments where precision and safety are top priorities.
- Non-dissipative rubber tileswhich, with their tireless resistance and durability, can withstand even the toughest mechanical stresses.
Rubber flooring is more than just a technical product - it is a guarantee of durability and sustainability. Its combination of natural minerals and environmentally friendly color pigments makes it not only extremely robust, but also a prime example of ecological thinking. The advantages are obvious:
Easy to clean and durableThe floor remains functional and beautiful for years to come.
Non-slipIt ensures maximum safety at all times.
DurableEven with intensive use, it remains indestructible.
Gentle on the jointsThanks to its elastic properties, the floor is easy on the joints and ensures comfortable working.
Hygienic and easy to cleanEasy to clean and therefore perfect for demanding working environments.
The floor was laid with the utmost precision - from the prepared subfloor to the final quality control. The result is a floor that not only impresses with its functionality, but also with its aesthetic effect.
Sustainability meets innovation
The second highlight of this project - the green roof - will not only be a feast for the eyes, but also an ecological meeting place for our smallest animals. By using a modern injection system, the substrate is evenly distributed, creating ideal conditions for plant growth. But the benefits go beyond the visual: the greenery improves thermal insulation, reduces water run-off and actively contributes to climate protection.
The integration of photovoltaics enables sustainable energy generation. The green roof not only cools the solar modules, but also protects the roof waterproofing and maximizes its service life. This turns the green roof into a sustainable energy generator that also promotes ecological balance.
A role model for sustainable building
The project in Bönigen impressively demonstrates how state-of-the-art construction technologies, innovative materials and ecological responsibility can go hand in hand. The rubber floor and the green roof are not only technical masterpieces, but also clear proof that sustainable construction is the future. BLS Bönigen is thus setting a benchmark for future construction projects that focus on both people and nature.
