Extensive green energy roof on the Schwarzsee campus with substrate and gravel

An extensive green energy roof is being created at the Schwarzsee campus, which will contribute to biodiversity in the long term and blend harmoniously into the surrounding natural and mountain environment. A protective and storage fleece as well as the PV substructure were installed on the approximately 1500 m² roof area. Once this preliminary work was completed, we were able to tackle the next key step in the roof construction.

Using our high-performance Power Jumbo, we pneumatically conveyed around 180 m³ of substrate and 10 m³ of gravel onto the roof efficiently and precisely within one and a half days. This functional and wear layer is visually separated by the substrate and gravel.

Biodiversity-promoting substrate «W+A Dachgrün plus»
Our substrate is based on crushed clay bricks. This recycled product has the ability to store water. With the enrichment of growth-promoting materials, a high-quality roof substrate is created, which forms the foundation for future vegetation. This in-house production supports the recycling cycle and reflects Weiss+Appetito's sustainability philosophy.

Gravel as a functional addition
The gravel laid around the roof surface and around the water drains is not only an aesthetic feature, but also improves the drainage of excess rainwater and thus prevents waterlogging on the roof.

Smooth cooperation at Schwarzsee
The speedy just-in-time Substrate production The recently broken roof tiles, the loading of the material and the continuous delivery to the Power Jumbo metering device, as well as the flawless installation of the team on the construction site ensured that everything went smoothly. Now the panels of the photovoltaic system are being installed so that we can finally apply the extensive seeding and thus the greening hydraulically.

View of the result
Seeding in spring marks the start of the vegetation development of the seedlings, which are matched to the PV system. Step by step, the energy green roof becomes a green area. Thanks to the improved water retention, precipitation is stored in a targeted manner and slowly released again, protecting the building roof from extreme fluctuations in temperature and humidity. At the same time, a valuable habitat for insects, birds and other small creatures is created, which sustainably increases the ecological quality of the building. In this way, the energy green roof combines ecological, energetic and economic advantages and develops over the years into a stable, functional and visually appealing component of the entire building technology.
