Cement-resin plaster coating in Biel: 300 m² of handwork in ongoing office operations

Work continued at the bankruptcy office in Biel, while office operations continued next door. For Prima-Sol AG, this meant around 300 m² of new Tana-Arte flooring, divided into two stages. Tana-Arte is a hand-crafted cement-resin screed, where not only the finished floor counts. The interplay of the team during the processing also shapes the final surface.

On behalf of akkurat bauatelier AG, Prima-Sol AG carried out the groundwork in two sections of approximately 150 m² each. While one area was closed for renovation, the other could continue to be used. After completion, the work moved on to the second phase.

First the underground, then Tana-Arte

The existing flooring had already been removed on the building site. For Prima-Sol AG Therefore, the work began with the groundwork.

Any remaining adhesive residue was removed, the surface was sanded, and then thoroughly cleaned. Only after that could the new plastering work be started.

Especially in the case of Tana-Arte, this preparation plays an important role. The cement-resin plaster is processed by hand directly and thus acquires its typical structure. A thoroughly prepared surface provides the necessary foundation for this.

Even with the radiators, floor trays and existing cable strips, the installation had to be connected cleanly to the existing elements. After the primer work, the surface was sealed.

Handwork at the same pace

This type of floor creates the appearance directly during the manufacturing process.

Four of our team members were working simultaneously on the surface, while a fifth was mixing the material. Each one took over a separate track and moved along the ground in the same rhythm as the others.

Work was carried out in wet conditions. This ensured that the individual tracks ran smoothly into one another and formed a cohesive pattern of jointing over the entire surface.

No matter how it looks, the train still doesn’t have a uniform appearance. Each hand applies the plaster in a slightly different way, leaving its own small «business card» on the surface. It is these differences that are part of Tana-Arte. The surface as a whole appears calm and coherent, yet retains the character of handwork.

The product description from Tana-Arte accurately describes this hand-applied surface texture as part of the finish. This makes each surface a unique piece.

A base for everyday office life

Tana-Arte was chosen for the office spaces not only because of its aesthetics. The multi-layer cement-resin plaster coating combines a low build height with a seamless, easy-to-maintain and durable surface – qualities that are also important in renovations and in office spaces that are used daily.

After about 300 m², two construction stages and a lot of manual labor, a new floor was created while the operation in the building could continue.

Thank you to akkurat bauatelier AG for the order and cooperation, to the client for the trust, and to our team for the clean execution on site.
