Cars that turn on the spot while maneuvering, daily customers, and bright headlights: The floor in the Polestar Space Münsingen has to withstand a lot. At the same time, the clear design of the car brand demands a calm, unobtrusive surface. Over approximately 500 square meters, we renovated the old floor structure and replaced it with a Tana-Arte trowel-applied finish. The result is a surface that is extremely durable yet still shows the fine structure of genuine craftsmanship.
The challenge in the existing stock
The work started directly on the old coverings. Parquet and tiles were partially present on site. We undertook the dismantling ourselves in order to be able to inspect the substrate precisely. In renovations, preparation is everything: If the substrate is not perfectly stable and clean, the subsequent covering will tear or discolor. Only after these preparatory works did we apply the spatula covering, mixed precisely in the specified Polestar color. A matching broadcast covering was used in the ancillary areas.
Four people, one rhythm
A Tana-Arte plaster is not created mechanically. Every movement with the trowel, the pressure of the hand, and the direction when spreading alters the structure. To fill such a large area without noticeable seams or irregular spots, four craftsmen had to apply the plaster simultaneously.
This requires blind coordination. Each person pulls the material at a slightly different angle and speed. Here, the team had to work at the exact same pace and constantly read the surface:
- Where is the material already drying?
- Where is structure still needed?
- How does the transition to a colleague flow?
That can't be planned; it's decided by the eye in the moment of work.
Details and Effect in the Showroom
The floor recedes visually and gives prominence to the vehicles. It doesn't come across as an impersonal industrial surface, but rather exudes a subtle sense of quality through the fine trowel marks.
Particularly important were the connections to the floor sockets. Poorly integrated sockets create edges and disrupt the overall appearance. Here, the edges join flush, making the technology invisible in everyday life. The 500 square meters were divided into fixed sections beforehand so that the team could work wet-on-wet without interruption.
The result in Münsingen
The Polestar Space Münsingen has received a floor that can withstand the daily demands of a car dealership and supports the spatial concept. The finish shows that it is handmade, which is exactly what makes it lively and durable.
